As part of a team-based project, we were tasked with developing a comprehensive proposal for a new student and staff experience initiative at the University of Newcastle. The aim was to improve the utilisation of campus car parking facilities, reduce the time spent finding parking during peak hours, enhance campus navigation, and foster better engagement between students, staff, and university clubs. Our team was responsible for delivering a formal project plan detailing the scope, budget, timeline, and required resources.
The proposed solution, titled CompanUON, was envisioned as a hybrid application accessible via both mobile and web platforms, restricted to verified university members. The proposal outlined key project elements including stakeholder analysis, core objectives, scope (inclusions and exclusions), and potential benefits such as improved campus mobility, stronger student communities, and increased university revenue. Innovative ideas and the integration of emerging technologies were central to the solution, with plans to enhance existing IT infrastructure rather than replace it.
To ensure the proposal's viability, we detailed success criteria such as the development of a UX/UI mockup demonstrating accessibility, responsiveness, and user-friendliness in line with WCAG standards. Supporting sections covered strategic alignment with university goals, alternative approaches, timelines, risk assessments, resource planning, funding sources, and long-term cost considerations. The final submission was a well-rounded proposal aimed at addressing real student/staff pain points through smart, scalable digital solutions.
