This project centered around the analysis, modeling, and redesign of a business system for a fictional cemetery management service, Pearly Gates Lawn. The aim was to design an adaptable, efficient online information system capable of handling sudden changes in scheduling while incorporating complex, sometimes unreasonable, business rules. Our team was tasked with interpreting these rules and translating them into system requirements that could be practically implemented.
We began by eliciting and documenting requirements through detailed stakeholder analysis, identifying system processes and user needs. Using these insights, we built a series of UML diagrams to represent the existing and proposed system models. This included use case diagrams, activity diagrams, a comprehensive class diagram covering all key system objects, and sequence diagrams to demonstrate the realization of use cases. All diagrams were created using Lucidchart for professional clarity and consistency.
To demonstrate the proposed system's functionality, we developed a UI prototype illustrating how users would interact with the system online. A high-level deployment strategy and system architecture were also outlined, taking into account technical feasibility and scalability. All deliverables—including diagrams and models—were compiled into a professionally written report, reflecting both the analytical and design aspects of the project.
